Masood Azhar Designated As Global Terrorist by UN Security Council as China Removes Objection.
Syed Akbaruddin's Statement:
Akbaruddin said, “Grateful to many countries who supported us i.e. the USA, UK and France and also several others in the council & outside the council.” He further added, “Would like to thank the permanent representative of Indonesia.” Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also expressed happiness over the move. “I am happy that it has materialised,” reported ANI quoting Singh as saying.
Manmohan Singh's Statement:
France has also welcomed the designation of Azhar as terrorist by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). France said the French diplomacy had been relentlessly pleading for sanctioning Azhar, head of the terrorist group responsible, notably, for the Pulwama attack last February.
Earlier in the day, Azhar was listed as a global terrorist by the UNSC. It is considered as a huge diplomatic win for India as China, which had blocked Masood Azhar's listing as global terrorist four times, finally dropped its objections. With the designation as a global terrorist, Azhar’s all finances and assets will be frozen.
