Mumbai, July 28: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has today conducted an all-party meeting to discuss Maratha reservation issue. While interacting with media after the meeting, Fadnavis said that all the parties were of the same opinion and they had decided to take a unanimous decision on the matter. The chief minister also clarified that the government had framed a law for Maratha reservation, but the High Court stayed that.

Fadnavis added that his government had realised it was a special situation and reservation could be given only on the recommendation of the Backward commission and it was taking time as the commission's first chairman was passed away. The government will also cancel the registration of colleges if they deliberately trouble Maratha students over fee concession. The chief minister said that the government would cooperate with colleges to understand their problems.

The government will also take back cases registered against people participating in the protest. The chief minister has instructed Director General of Police (DGP), Maharashtra D.D. Padsalgikar regarding this. Fadnavis further clarified that only the serious cases like attacking police personnel, indulging in arsoning etc. will not be taken back. Special assembly session will also be convened after the Backward Commission submit the report.

On July 24, Maratha groups had called for a complete Maharashtra Bandh. The Maratha Kranti Morcha Coordination Committee had declared a Maharashtra Bandh in order to protest against the delay on government's part in taking a decision of the topic of reservation for Maratha community. The community is demanding reservation for quite some time now. The protest turned violent in certain places in Navi Mumbai, especially Koparkhairne. Internet services were also suspended in the area for a day.
