Aurangabad, July 30: Another youth has committed suicide in Maharashtra, demanding reservation for the Maratha community. According to news channel TV9 Marathi, Aurangabad's Pramod Patil, committed suicide after writing a Facebook post in which he wrote that, "Today, a Maratha is going..." and said that he is giving away his life for Maratha reservation. This is the second suicide within a week on the issue of Maratha reservation. Earlier, on July 23, a 28-year-old youth named Kakasaheb Shinde, jumped to his death in Godavari river, demanding reservation for Maratha community.
The news report said that Pramod Patil, who reportedly committed suicide demanding reservation for Marathas, gave away his life on Sunday after putting a post on Facebook. In his post, he said that "Another Maratha is going today..." and took his life away. Watch the TV9 video below:
According to reports, Pramod Patil was depressed over not managing to get a government job. On Sunday night, he committed suicide on a railway track. Following his suicide, there is anger in the area.
In other news, The Maratha Kranti Morcha, on the issue of reservation for the Maratha community, has called for a Bandh in Maharashtra's Solapur district. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has called off the bus services in Solapur today. The declaration of bandh in Solapur was made on Sunday, when the Maratha Kranti Morcha had organised a massive rally in Pune and did a chakkajam (strike) in Pune on Sunday.
On July 28, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted an all-party meeting to discuss Maratha reservation issue. Taking to the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister had said that all the parties were of the same opinion and they had decided to take a unanimous decision on the matter of Maratha reservation.
But Maharashtra Chief Minister's assurance has failed to pacify the protests demanding Maratha reservation. Tensions continues to simmer in parts of Maharashtra, especially Nandurbar, Solapur and Aurangabad, over the demand for reservation. The recent news of Maratha youth committing suicide is a challenge for the government even as the situation remains tensed as Maratha Mukti Morcha threatens to up the ante if the government does not find solution on the topic of reservation for Marathas.
