Maratha Quota Stir: Section 144 Imposed in Pune's Chakan After Protesters Torch Vehicles

Several vehicles were torched and many others attacked in Pimpri's Chakan area. According to latest data, tires were burnt and buses vandalised after roads were blocked by the protesters.

Pune, July 30: The protests by Maratha groups demanding reservation for the Maratha community turned violent on Monday after several vehicles were torched and many others attacked in Pimpri's Chakan area. According to latest data, tires were burnt and buses vandalised and roads were blocked by the protesters.

The police has imposed section 144 in the area after the protesters brought havoc on the streets. Section 144 prohibits the assembly of more than four people in a locality at a particular time to prevent riots like situation in an area of conflict. Earlier in the day, reports emerged of another Maratha youth, who committed suicide in Maharashtra's Aurangabad , demanding reservation for the Maratha community. Pramod Patil, committed suicide on Sunday evening after posting a Facebook post in which he wrote that, "Today, a Maratha is going..." and said that he is giving away his life for Maratha reservation. His relatives said that the youth was depressed because he was unable to find a government job. The Maratha Kranti Morcha and Maratha groups have also called for a bandh in Solapur on Monday.
