Manohar Parrikar Health Update: Goa Chief Minister Admitted to Hospital in Candolim, Currently Undergoing Treatment

Panaji, Sep 13: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday was admitted to a hospital in Candolim. According to a tweet by ANI, Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo informed that the Chief Minister is currently undergoing a treatment there. Earlier this month, Parrikar returned to Goa from the United States where he has gone for medical treatment.

The chief minister had left for the US on August 31. Earlier in 2018, he underwent a three-month-long treatment for a pancreatic ailment at a US hospital. Subsequently, he was admitted to a Mumbai hospital again on 23 August.

The Goa Congress has been hitting out at the state BJP unit saying the party is risking Parrikar's health by giving him the responsibility. The Congress on Wednesday wrote to Governor, expressing fear that Parrikar may dissolve the Assembly as he is "losing grip" over allies and facing intra-party politics.

In a letter to governor Mridula Sinha, Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar said the Congress should get a chance to form the government, and the Assembly should not be dissolved before its term is over. Chodankar also claimed that Parrikar who returned from the US last week after medical treatment has not resumed office yet. The state BJP, however, refuted his claims.

It must be noted that the Congress emerged as the single largest party in the coastal state in 2017 elections. The Goa Congress believes that they should be invited to form the government in such a scenario where Parrikar's health condition is not good. It said the administration in the coastal state is on its knees and the state of emergency on account of the void created by lack of administrative and political head.
