Imphal, July 22: In a major development, Manipur will go under completed lockdown for fourteen days. The shutdown will be imposed from Thursday, July 23, at 2 pm. The major step comes amid the rise in novel coronavirus cases in the state. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Manipur has reported 2,015 COVID-19 cases. The total cases include 615 actives cases, while 1,400 individuals have recovered from the illness. Till now, no deaths have been reported in the state.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Thoubal, Devi, Bandra have imposed curfew in the entire district prohibiting public movement. Three areas in Thoubal district were also declared as containment zones.
This development comes a day ahead of stone laying foundation of Manipur water supply project by PM Narendra Modi on Thursday. The Premier will lay the foundation stone for the crucial project through video conferencing.
