Mangaluru. September 26: An LIC agent in Mangaluru, identified as Manjunath, was beaten up by three individuals after a communal debate sparked off between them. The incident of violence was reported on Wednesday at a popular mall in the Karnataka city. After a police complaint was registered by the victim, the accused, including a minor, were arrested. The video of the assault went viral on social media. In the footage, the LIC agent could be seen involved in a hectic argument with a group of Muslim youths. The victim told them that India is a "Hindu Rashtra" and "Muslims are not welcome" in the nation.
His statements agitated the group of Muslims, who resorted to violence in retaliation. The footage shows them landing blows and fists at the victim before locals intervened and separated them.

The victim has been identified as Manjunath from Bantwal region, said Mangalore Police Commissioner PS Harsha. The top cop further appealed the reporters to not to sensationalise or further communalise the issue. This should be considered as a simple law and order case, and the police will act appropriately against those involved, he said.
The accused has been identified as Mohiyuddin Safwan and Abdul Rahim Saad, whereas, the third among them is a juvenile. The minor will be dealt with as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, Harsha said.
