Bhopal, August 21: A Madhya Pradesh special fast-track court on Tuesday convicted two youths - Irfan and Asif - in the Mandsaur rape case and pronounced death sentence for both. The two men were found guilty of raping an 8-year-old girl in Mandsaur in June this year. This is the 12th death sentence announced in Madhya Pradesh in rape case this year.
The rape survivor had recognised both Irfan (24) and Asif (20) in the court in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district earlier last month. The rape survivor had earlier identified the duo from their photographs during the police investigation. Irfan and Asif had abducted the girl on June 26 when she was standing outside her school in Mandsaur town, waiting for her parents. They took her to an isolated spot, raped her and tried to kill her by slitting her throat.
All communities in Mandsaur of Madhya Pradesh came out together last month demanding death penalty for both the culprits. Muslims in the area had disowned the suspect and called for death for the two. They had also reportedly refused to give them burial space in any community burial ground in Mandsaur.
