Bhopal, June 30: All communities in Mandsaur of Madhya Pradesh have come out together demanding death penalty for the suspect in the rape of an eight-your-old who is battling life in a hospital. Muslims in the area have disowned the suspect and have called for death for the accused. They have also reportedly refused to give the accused burial space in any community burial ground in Mandsaur.

“There is no place for such a monster in the community. He should be hanged,” Waqf Anjuman Islam Committee Sadar Mohd Yunus Sheikh said on Thursday as he led a delegation to submit a memorandum to Mandsaur SP Manoj Singh.

“Such a heinous crime cannot be pardoned. We have decided that we will now allow the culprit’s body to be buried in any of the community burial grounds in the district,” Sheikh said. (Also Read: Crime Against Women And Children in India: The Sad Story of Selective Anger, Religion And Politics)

Irfan Khan, a 20-year-old labourer, was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur on Wednesday for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl, and slitting her throat, thus leaving her to die. The police booked Irfan for kidnapping and rape under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The girl is in hospital and doctors say she is responding to treatment. Doctors said that the child was assaulted with a penetrative object, causing extensive damage.

On Friday, Asif (24) was also held from Madarpura locality of the city, after Irfan named him as his accomplice in the heinous crime, said additional superintendent of police S S Kanesh.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemned the incident and said that rapists were a "burden on the earth" and did not deserve to live.
