Bhopal, August 21: A court in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday found two accused Irfan and Asif guilty of raping an 8-year-old girl in Mandsaur in June this year. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced later in the day. The rape survivor had recognised both Irfan (24) and Asif (20) in the court in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district earlier last month.
The rape survivor had earlier identified the duo from their photographs during the police investigation. Irfan and Asif had abducted the girl on June 26 when she was standing outside her school in Mandsaur town, waiting for her parents. They took her to an isolated spot, raped her and tried to kill her by slitting her throat.
The 8-year-old girl fought for life for days at a hospital. Doctors had said that the child was assaulted with a penetrative object, causing extensive damage.
All communities in Mandsaur of Madhya Pradesh came out together last month demanding death penalty for both the culprits. Muslims in the area had disowned the suspect and called for death for the two. They had also reportedly refused to give them burial space in any community burial ground in Mandsaur.
