Man Tonsured, His Moustache Trimmed by Ajmer Dargah Khamids Over Suspicion of Being Pickpocket; Three Held
A man hailing from Madhya Pradesh was reportedly assaulted by the Khadims at the Ajmer Dargah. The incident occurred when the victim, who was mistakenly suspected of being a pickpocket, refused to provide offerings for prayers as demanded by the khadim.
Mumbai, September 26: A man hailing from Madhya Pradesh was reportedly assaulted by the Khadims at the Ajmer Dargah. The incident occurred when the victim, who was mistakenly suspected of being a pickpocket, refused to provide offerings for prayers as demanded by the khadim. The victim told the police that he was subsequently beaten up and had his hair and moustache partially cut. The police have detained three people and have initiated a search for any others accused by the victim.
According to the Times of India, the victim, Sarwar Hussein from Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, registered a complaint at the Dargah police station on Saturday evening. He informed the police that he had visited Ajmer on September 23 with his friends to offer prayers at the dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishty. As per the victim, while he and his friends were inside the crypt, a khadim approached them and demanded money. However, he refused. Subsequently, the khadim, accompanied by six others, forcefully dragged him out of the crypt and unleashed verbal abuse and physical assault. The assailants then took him to a secluded area where they partially cut his hair and moustache. The victim claimed that the accused also stole money from his pocket. Fortunately, the situation was intervened by the timely arrival of the police at the scene, who saved the victim. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered the victim's report and subsequently arrested three people identified as Sayed Rahmat Ali (35), Kasim Sheikh (32), and Mohammad Feiz (50) on Saturday night. As of now, efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused involved in the incident, as a search operation is currently in progress.
