Thane, November 23: Thane Crime Branch on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly fled with a truck filled with 1.41 lakh eggs in a bid to destroy his rival businessman. The accused, identified as Sadat, was arrested from Bhiwandi. The police also recovered 1,16,000 stolen eggs from Sadat's possession. Cops were searching for his three associates.

According to a report, Sadat along with three others intercepted the truck loaded with 1.41 lakh eggs at Green City in Ambernath East. They overtook the truck and stopped their card in front of it, forcing the truck driver, Mohammad Shaikh, to halt the vehicle. They dragged Shaikh out of the truck and assaulted Muzammail, son of the egg shop owner who was accompanying Shaikh.

The accused left Shaikh blindfolded near Titwala and took the truck worth Rs 5,00,000 and the 1,41,000 eggs (4,700 trays) worth another Rs 5,00,000, Rs 2,000 in cash and Shaikh's mobile phone worth Rs 1,000 and fled, reported Midday. Shaikh immediately lodged a complaint at Shivaji Nagar police station about robbery and attack on Muzammil.

After an initial investigation, cops concluded that the accused could be someone who knew the businessman and timings of the truck. Cops checked CCTV footages and took help from informers. The police then found that one of the accused was in Bhiwandi. "We caught him and have started the search for his associates. We have recovered 1,16,000 eggs as the rest have been sold in the market," Crime branch DCP Deepak Devraj was quoted as saying.
