Man-eater Tigress Avni, Alleged For 14 Deaths, Killed In Maharashtra's Yavatmal

Mumbai, November 3: Tigress Avni reportedly behind the deaths of 14 people over the last two years, was killed in Maharashtra's Yavatmal last night, reported news agency ANI. Postmortem of man-eater tigress Avni will be conducted at Nagpur's Gorewada Rescue Centre. Earlier in September, the Supreme Court had ruled that T1 or Avni, could be shot at a sight, prompting a large number of online petitions. In the last five months, Maharashtra has witnessed multiple cases of people being allegedly attacked by the man-eating tigress and it was concluded that Avni was behind them. The authorities had decided to hunt tigress, for that purpose 150 ground personnel, expert trackers, elephants and shooters were on the quest to find Avni. The forest department has also hired the professional marksman Shafar Ali Khan, who is known for hunting wild animals.
Avni was first spotted in 2012 in the forests of Yavatmal. DNA evidence links her to 5 of the 14 bodies found in the region she inhabits. Forest department and experts who have surveyed the area over the past few years says that there is only another tiger there i.e, a male tiger and his DNA was found in one of the bodies.
