Kolkata, August 5: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has wished people on the occasion of Friendship Day. Banerjee tweeted to extend her wishes. In the tweet, she wrote, “All our friends are our neighbours. All our neighbours are our friends. Not just for a day, but for every day of the year.” Her tweet also drew flak on social media. Netizens trolled her for opposing National Register of Citizens (NRC). People have also taken a dig at the chief minister and alleged her of giving shelter to Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
All our friends are our neighbours.
All our neighbours are our friends.
Not just for a day, but for every day of the year.

Banerjee has strongly criticised the NRC list released by the Assam government and accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of vendetta politics ahead of 2019 general elections. She termed it as a conspiracy against minorities. The Chief Minister, while speaking at an event on July 31 had said that there will be "civil war and bloodbath" in the country if the issue of the Assam citizen's list is not solved.

Why don't you say it openly that, all those imported vote-banks from the neighbouring country are our friends. Not just for a day, but for every day of the year.
