Kolkata, May 6: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee had not returned to his call to inquire about the damage caused by extremely severe Cyclone Fani, the TMC chief responded to Prime Minister's charge saying that she could not take PM's call as she was in Kharagpur. Mamata Banerjee Arresting Those Who Are Chanting 'Jai Shri Ram', Says PM Narendra Modi.

“I could not take PM’s call on cyclone Fani (pronounced as Foni) as I was in Kharagpur,” she said at a rally. Earlier today, PM Modi at a rally in Tamluk said he had tried calling Banerjee as he felt worried about the people of West Bengal. "I tried to talk to Mamata Didi before the cyclone hit, but such was her arrogance that she refused to talk to me," said the Premier.

On Sunday, a controversy was triggered by reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called up the West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and asked him for a report on the damage Cyclone Fani had caused in the state.

Later, the PMO officials said that they had tried twice to connect the two leaders. The officials also added that today, when they called the Mamata Banerjee's office about the possibility of the review meeting, the state officials declined by saying they were busy in election campaigning.
