Mamata Banerjee Leads Mega Rally With 'No CAB, No NRC in Bengal' Slogan, Several Trains to North Bengal Cancelled Due to Tension
On Monday, Banerjee led a mega rally from Red Road to Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral house of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in north Kolkata. She had further highlighted that her protests will continue till NRC and CAB are withdrawn.
Kolkata, December 17: Mamata Banerjee today led the protest march from Jadavpur to Jadu Babu's Bazar with the slogan 'No CAB, No NRC in Bengal'. MPs Mimi Chakraborty & Nusrat Jahan were also present in the rally. Protests in several other parts of the state were reported on Tuesday. Several trains to north Bengal were either cancelled or delayed, causing extreme inconvenience to commuters.
On Monday, Bengal CM appealed the protesters to not indulge in vandalism and arson. She had further threatened that implementation of NRC and Citizenship Amendment Act can happen in the state only over Mamata Banerjee's dead body. She has requested the people to join the movement in a peaceful manner within the ambit of the law. Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party, Chief Minister Banerjee said: "There are certain people in the BJP who are creating violence. We have to work peacefully to find out a middle path. The BJP intends to profit if there are clashes between Hindus and Muslims."
