The entire incident was recorded on the camera, and the video went viral on social media. In the video, Banerjee was seen sitting by a sea-shore or a bank of a lake and was offering cake to government officials. The police officer after eating a piece of cake, touched Banerjee’s feet. After the video went viral, Banerjee was trolled. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Barrackpore, Arjun Singh slammed the West Bengal CM over the video. Singh shared the video on his Twitter account. Along with the video, he wrote, “What is happening? On duty police officer touches feet of CM (Mamata Banerjee). This is shameful for uniform of police as well as the Office of Chief Minister." Mamata Banerjee Says Those Living in West Bengal Will Have to Learn to Speak in Bengali.

Senior BJP leader and the party's Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya also slammed the act saying, "What kind of system and democracy is this?" The video is a few days old when the Chief Minister was touring the coastal town of Digha. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shishir Adhikari can also be spotted in the viral video.
Earlier on Wednesday, Banerjee hit out at the BJP government at the Centre. She said that country is moving towards a presidential form of government. Banerjee added that her party is not scared of any agency and if she goes to jail than she will look to it as a freedom struggle. She also hit out at the Modi government over the abrogation of the provisions of the Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Banerjee said that if there was any all-party meeting, her party would have kept its views.
