Mamata Banerjee Expresses Shock on Omar Abdullah’s Latest Photo, Says ‘Could Not Recognize Him in This Picture’

Hours after a picture of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah went viral on social media, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the National Conference leader is unrecognisable.

New Delhi, January 25: Hours after a picture of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah went viral on social media, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the National Conference leader is unrecognisable. Trinamool Congress supremo also shared a picture of Abdullah, who is under detention since the Central government revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status and bifurcated it into two union territories in August last year. “I could not recognize Omar in this picture. I am feeling sad. The picture also drew comment from Iltija Mujti, who has been operating PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's Twitter handle. "To those treating OmarAbdullah's illegal & prolonged detention with nonchalance, would serve you well to remember he's been in solitary confinement away from family & loved ones since 6 months. Physical appearances & tweeting are the least of his concerns," the tweet read.

After the 2G mobile internet services were restored in Jammu and Kashmir, a smiling picture of Abdullah sporting a long beard went viral on social media. In the pic, the former Chief Minister looks completely different what he used to look before.

Omar Abdullah, his father Farooq Abdullah, and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti are among hundreds of political leaders and activist who are detained after the BJP-led Centre abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
