Sindhudurg, September 7: In a tragic incident, a 48-year-old woman died after slipping into the septic tank of her home in Masure village in Malvan in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg on Thursday, September 5. Her husband, who had recently undergone angioplasty, suffered a fatal heart attack and died upon discovering her body. The couple was visiting their native place for the Ganesh Chaturthi 2024.

According to a report published by the Times of India, the deceased woman was identified as Usha Hadkar, while her husband was identified as Vipin Hadkar (51). The couple resided in Sewri in Navi Mumbai. They had travelled to their ancestral village for the Ganesh festival, accompanied by Vipin's 75-year-old mother and two children of their relatives. Their son remained in Mumbai. The Hadkars had purchased the house four years ago and were planning to perform a puja during this visit. As per the report, the woman went to clean the septic tank cover while the others were away at around 3 pm on Thursday. Upon returning, Vipin searched for her throughout the house and contacted nearby relatives. He eventually found her footwear near the septic tank and noticed the broken cover. Vipin's elderly mother raised the alarm, and the bodies were taken to a primary health centre. Malvan police inspector Pravin Kolhe stated, "Relatives of the couple took the bodies to Mumbai for the last rites. An accidental death report has been filed."
