New Delhi, January 2: In an apparent case of faux pas, Pakistani author and education activist Malala Yousafzai featured in a quiz on World Book Fair 2020 posted by the Indian Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). The quiz, posted on Twitter, was deleted shortly after being uploaded as social media users slammed the government for promoting Malala, who had recently slammed the Indian government for abrogating Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir.

Malala, who emerged as a symbol of resistance in Pakistan's northwestern frontier region where Taliban terrorists cracked down on girls pursuing education, has written a couple of books narrating her plight. In her work, she has also highlighted the challenges faced by girls in Waziristan and remote Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions who attempt to pursue education. Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai Requests UN to Help Kashmiri Children Return to School.

The MHRD tweet showed Malala's pixelated image, along with tw hints to identify who she is. "Can you guess this famous female author? A tip-off to get you thinking: She is a Nobel prize winner and an activist defending the right to #education for women," the now-deleted tweet read.

'Hope They Learned Lessons'

The World Book Fair 2020 (WBF2020) will be held in Delhi's Pragati Maidan between January 4-12. To promote the literary event, the MHRD has been posting daily quizes related to notable authors around the world and in India.

The post on Malala, prima facie, appears to be an inadvertent error. New Delhi's relationship with Islamabad is at all-time low over the last decade, with both the nation warning of a possibility of war erupting between them. The situation escalated after the Narendra Modi government, in August last year, revoked the semi-autonomous status of Jammu & Kashmir.
