Malad Wall Collapse: NDRF Team Pulls Out One More Woman Alive From Debris, Rescue Operation Underway
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on Tuesday afternoon rescued a woman from the site of a wall collapse in Pimpripada area of Malad. The tragic incident took place in the early hours of July 2. A total of 19 people lost their lives and more than 20 injured in the unfortunate incident.
Mumbai, July 2: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on Tuesday afternoon rescued a woman from the site of a wall collapse in Malad. According to reports, the woman was trapped below a body. Till now, 19 people reported dead in the tragic incident which took place on hutments in Pimpripada area on the early hours of July 2.
The NDRF team, fire brigade and police had immediately reached the spot after the incident. More than 20 people were also admitted to the trauma centre at Jogeshwari and Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. However, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut blamed the monsoon for the collapse. Commenting on the tragic incident, Raut, said, "It’s not BMC’s failure. It is an accident. It is because of heavy rainfall. Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Monday crippling the normal life in the Maximum city. Apart from Malad, another wall collapse incident was reported from Kalyan. Three people died in the collapse while one was injured. The unfortunate incident took place after a wall of National Urdu School collapsed at around 12:30 am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in the wake of heavy rains, the state government declared a public holiday on July 2 as a precautionary measure for Mumbai city and its citizens. The India Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy downpour between July 3 and July 5.
