Mumbai, July 2: 21 dead and 78 injured in the incident where a wall collapsed on hutments in Pimpripada area, due to heavy rainfall. The compound wall of a building collapsed on hutments on a hill slope in the wee hours today. The injured have been hospitalised for medical treatment. More than twenty-five people were admitted to trauma care centres at Jogeshwari and Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Urban Development Minister Yogesh Sagar also visited Shatabdi hospital to meet the injured. Fadnavis has also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the victims. A holiday was also declared following heavy rains. Blaming the heavy showers for the incident, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said, "It’s not BMC’s failure. It is an accident. Meanwhile, heavy rains pounded Mumbai crippling the normal life of the capital city. Apart from Malad, a similar wall collapse was reported in Pune. Six labourers died in the collapse. The unfortunate incident took place in Pune's Ambegaon area after a compound wall of the Sinhagad College campus came down crushing huts.
