Malad FOB Closed For Public Due To 'Unsafe Condition' Amid Heavy Rains In Mumbai
On Sunday, similar to Andheri ROB, Ghatkopar pant Nagar ROB connecting east and west were shut for traffic movement and pedestrians after reports about the dangerous condition of the bridge were reported.
Mumbai, July 9: The Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Malad Railway station has been shut for public after the bridge reportedly developed cracks and was found to be in a dangerous condition by the Western Railway officials. After Andheri Road Over Bridge (ROB) collapse incident, which claimed one woman's life and left four others injured, authorities have been in the line of fire. As per sources in Western Railways, the Malad FOB will not be reopened till the repair work is completed.
Malad station is one of the busiest stations of western railways and every day, lakhs of commuters travel from this station.
After the Andheri ROB collapse was reported last week, the Ministry of Railways in coordination with the BMC has ensured that all bridges across Mumbai will be inspected. Rail Minister Piyush Goyal directed his officials to prepare a structural audit report of all bridges for further course of action.
On Sunday, Ghatkopar Pant Nagar ROB connecting east and west was also shut for traffic movement and pedestrians after reports of the bridge being in an unsafe condition. Later that evening, the ROB was opened for vehicles. However, the adjoining footway has been kept closed for pedestrians for safety reasons.
