Mumbai, August 9: Mortal remains of Indian Army Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane who lost his life in Gurez Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on August 7 have arrived at his residence in Mira road area. The 29-year-old major was martyred along with three other army personnel in an encounter. Major Rane was the only son of his parents. His family was heading towards the native village Konkan when the news of Kaustubh reached them.
Major Rane had served in the army for six years and belonged to 36 Rashtriya Rifles. He left behind his wife Kanika and two-and-a-half-year-old son.
The other three soldiers who were martyred in the encounter are:
- Rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat
- Rifleman Hameer Singh
- Gunner Vikram Jeet Singh.
The encounter took place at Govind Nallah in the Gurez sector of Bandipore district after the Indian Army noticed a suspicious movement in the area close to Line of Control (LoC) during the night at around 1 am. According to reports, eight terrorists infiltrated out of which four were killed, and the rest fled to Pakistan –Occupied Kashmir.
Yesterday, five terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla. The gunbattle broke out following information about the presence of militants in the area. The security forces then launched a search operation in the Rafiabad area of Baramulla district.
In 2018, more than 130 terrorists have been killed by the security forces, whereas more than 50 security personnel lost their lives in the Kashmir Valley. The security forces have launched ‘Operation All-Out’ in the valley to eliminate terrorism from the area.
