Surat, May 24: In a tragic incident, 19 students lost their lives after a fire broke out in a coaching centre at a shopping complex in Surat on Friday. One teacher was also reported dead in the incident. According to reports, more than eight people were also injured in the blaze. Fourteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Firefighting operations are underway. More than 30 people are still trapped in the fire. The fire erupted at the coaching centre which is located on the fourth floor of Takshila Arcade. In the video, students were seen jumping from the coaching centre to save themselves from the fire. Injured are rushed to a nearby hospital. As per reports, the death toll may rise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragic incident. He tweeted, "Extremely anguished by the fire tragedy in Surat. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Have asked the Gujarat Government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected."

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani has ordered an investigation into the incident. The CM also declared financial help of Rs four lakh each to the families of children who died in this incident.
