According to a latest development in the Major Aditya case, reportedly, Centre today has filed a fresh plea in the Supreme Court, seeking the quashing of an FIR that named Aditya in Shopian firing in Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered the Jammu & Kashmir government to halt the ongoing probe against the Army's 10 Garhwal Rifles unit for allegedly "murdering three civilians" in South Kashmir's Shopian district in January this year.

The court's order came while hearing a petition filed by Lt Col (retd) Karamveer Singh, a Kargil war veteran, seeking the dismissal of FIR filed by the J&K government against his son Major Aditya Kumar, who was allegedly leading the Army convoy which fired upon the civilian mob in Shopian's Gaunpara on Jan 27. As per reports, SC order to stay the probe into the Shopian firing case till 24 April came after the central government highlighted that the state police could not have registered a case against Major Aditya Kumar without the Centre's permission.

As per earlier reports, the Army had stressed that army personnel had fired when they were 'provoked to the ultimate'.
