Lucknow, August 3: The politics over statue and colour refuses to take a back seat, and the latest victim of 'statue' politics is none other than the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. News channel Times Now, reported that in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been allegedly painted saffron.
A local was quoted saying by the news channel that the Gandhi statue in the village has been in place for the past 20 to 30 years. The local resident also said that initially the colour of the statue was white but as governments kept changing, so did the colour of the statue. He also said that there should be no politics over colour and that the statue should be painted white again. Watch the video and visuals from the spot, in the tweet below:

This year in April, a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district was painted into saffron from its original colour of blue. The image was then repainted in blue, after a hue and cry over the incident. According to reports, BSP leader Himendra Gautam had undertaken the task of repainting the statue in blue colour.
