Mumbai, October 23: The Raigad Police in Maharashtra have arrested a man for poisoning and murdering his two sisters over a property dispute. The two sisters died within four days of consuming the soup cooked by their brother, Ganesh Mohite. The 34-year-old Sonali Shankar Mohite died on October 16 at a hospital in the Alibaug region while being treated for food poisoning symptoms. Her brother Ganesh Mohite claimed her dead-body after she died.

Ganesh admitted his second sister Sneha Shankar Mohite (30), to the same hospital a day after Sonali died, complaining of nausea and severe stomachache. Her health worsened, and she was sent to MGM Hospital in Panvel, where she died on October 20. Kerala Shocker: Man Kills Younger Brother, Buries Him in Compound of Home in Thiruvallam; Arrested.

Sneha informed police authorities before her death that on October 15, her brother cooked soup and brought it to her and her elder sister Sonali, while their mother gave them water in a copper glass. Further, the victim's mother informed authorities that she had kept the copper water tank outside her house after her daughters' health deteriorated as she suspected her relatives living nearby of poisoning the water over a property dispute. Police subsequently opened an investigation and launched a murder case in the matter.

During the inquiry, police authorities discovered that the victim's father was an official in the state Forest Department who died in 2009. Ganesh's mother requested that her husband's employment be given to her daughters on humanitarian grounds when her husband died. This sparked a feud between Ganesh and his two sisters. According to police, Ganesh used to take money from the bank account using fake signatures of his mother and sisters. He had also lied to his sisters and mother about transferring their house from their father's name to his name.

Police authorities also discovered paperwork relating to accusations lodged by the sisters and their mother against Ganesh with the police and the forest department. Ganesh had promised his sisters and mother money and fair property division in exchange for their NOC (No objection Certificate) for his position in the Forest department in his father's stead and had entered the service on that premise in 2021. UP: Minor Girl Kills Younger Brother in Prayagraj With Help of Boyfriend and Aide After He Objects to Her Relationship, Arrested.

He had been living with his sisters and mother for the last year, but there had been disagreements about the equitable division of property promised by Ganesh, which led him to plan to eliminate his sisters due to their persistent demands to split the land. Ganesh confessed to his crime after the police found a rat poison bottle wrapper in Ganesh’s car’s boot. The accused has been arrested.
