Nagpur, June 8: In a troubling incident in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ashok Bagul is facing grave allegations of molestation. The officer is accused of demanding sexual favours from a young woman who sought his help in filing a complaint against her estranged lover.

The young woman, from Lakhani Taluka, was pursuing her engineering studies in Nagpur when she met a man, and their friendship developed into a romantic relationship. They secretly exchanged vows and considered themselves married. However, as time passed, her lover began avoiding formalising their marriage. When she pressed him on the issue, he outright refused, causing her significant distress. Determined to seek justice, she decided to lodge a complaint. Accompanied by another woman, she approached the Bhandara Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Ashok Bagul. During their initial meeting, Bagul instructed her to return alone. Trusting his intentions, she complied. Shocked and appalled by his proposition, the woman reported the incident to District Superintendent of Police Lohit Matani. Following her complaint, the Bhandara Police acted swiftly, registering a case against Officer Bagul under Sections 354A and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, which address sexual harassment and insulting the modesty of a woman.

Authorities have assured a thorough investigation and strict action against the accused if found guilty.
