On Sunday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted “heavy to very heavy rainfall” on August 4 over Pune and neighbouring areas. The rainfall intensity in the district will increase due to strong westerly winds. Meanwhile, a red alert has been issued in Mumbai as heavy showers continue to lash the maximum city. The IMD recorded 52.2 mm rainfall at the Colaba observatory and 83.8 mm at the Santacruz observatory till 8.30 p.m. on Saturday. The Mithi river in Mumbai also crossed the danger mark by over three metres. Water-logging on tracks disrupted Mumbai local train services. Low-lying areas in adjoining Thane city were affected the most and parking areas were flooded. In Palghar district also, several villages were marooned as the roads connecting them were flooded.
