Palghar, September 30: In a major breakthrough for Maharashtra police, a huge cache of arms and ammunition and narcotic substances worth Rs 13 crore were seized from two men on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border in Palghar. Both the people were arrested by the police. According to reports, three AK-47s were recovered from the accused. The police also seized Rs 80 lakh cash and drugs including ephedrine, mephedrone, heroin, morphine and DMT (N-Dimethyltripthamine), reported India Today. Both the accused are currently interrogated by the police to nab other suspects involved in the racket. Gaurav Singh, SP Palghar said, "Three AK-47s, four countryside pistols, 63 rounds, and narcotic substances recovered; total value of the items at around Rs 13 crores. The Maharashtra police’s crackdown came at a time when the state is gearing up for assembly elections. On September 21, the Election Commission (EC) announced the dates for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. With the announcement of dates, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has immediately come into force.

The polls for 288-member Maharashtra Assembly is scheduled to take place on October 21. The votes will be counted on October 24 and results will be declared on the same day.
