Kohlapur, December 27: Maharashtra Police has identified five members of a group which attacked a Sunday Mass on December 23. As per reports, all the members of the group hail from Belgaum and rural areas of Karnataka.   "We have identified at least five members of the group with the help of CCTV footage. We have their names and addresses and are searching for them," Superintendent of Police, Kolhapur, Abhinav Deshmukh, told PTI.

Police also formed several teams, including one from the crime branch, to investigate the case. The Maharashtra police has also sought help from Karnataka police to nab the culprits. The unfortunate incident took place at the New Life Church of Kolhapur district.

The miscreants with their faces covered attacked a group of people attending a congregational prayer in a rented room at Kowad in Chandgad taluka with bottles, stones and hockey sticks. The assailants, while returning towards Belagavi attacked some more people in Dindalkop and Talguli villages. A case was registered against the attackers under various sections including 143, 147, 148, 149, 307 and 452 of the Indian Penal Code.
