Maharashtra: Man Disguised as Woman Befriends Government Employee on Social Media, Scam Him of Rs 1.9 Lakh in Nashik

Mumbai, September 25: After befriending him on a social networking site, a 30-year-old man from Nashik city was scammed out of Rs 1.9 lakh by a conman who appeared to be a woman and spoke in a woman's voice with the former. The complainant first met the conman on a social networking site in November 2020.

When the victim realised that the 'lady' he was chatting on the phone with was actually a guy, he filed a complaint against the accused with the city's Mhasrul police station. The Mhasrul police have filed a FIR for acts punishable under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Previously, a 36-year-old guy from Nashik was duped out of Rs 1.6 lakh by a cyber criminal who promised him high returns on his investment in the industry of selling surgical equipment online. When the victim received the call, he was already working in the medical sector and seeking for another source of money. To get him into the firm, the suspect promised positive outcomes. The cops have opened an investigation.

The exercise was carried out ahead of the Ganesh and Eid-e-Milad festivities to safeguard the city's safety and security. Furthermore, the police have recently extradited two offenders suspected of harming innocent individuals and extorting money.
