Mumbai, June 4: The counting of votes for the India General Elections 2024 is underway. The 48-member Lok Sabha of Maharashtra went to poll in the first five phases of the General polls. According to the latest trends by the Election Commission at 7 pm, the BJP won 2 seats and is leading on 8 others, Congress won one and is leading on 12 seats, Shiv Sena UBT won 1 and is leading on 8 seats. Similarly, Ekath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 1 and is leading on six seats, NCP-led by Ajit Pawar won one seat while the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) is leading on seven seats with one Independent leading on one seat.

In Mahayuti, the BJP got a larger share, fielding its candidates on 28 seats. Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena got 15 seats, NCP (Ajit Pawar) contested on four seats and Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) on one seat. On the other hand, in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the Shiv Sena (UBT) contested 21 seats, the Congress 17, and the NCP (SP) 10.
The fierce competition for the Lok Sabha in Maharashtra is evident from the key candidates from different parties contesting this time. The BJP proposed two Union ministers: Piyush Goyal from Mumbai North and Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur, an RSS stronghold. The saffron party also fielded Pankaja Munde, daughter of late Gopinath Munde, from Beed. The daughter of former chief minister Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, carried on the family tradition by contesting for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat.
