Mumbai, May 5: After a 20-year-old woman was killed by her family members, apparently for running away with a man from the OBC community, Maharashtra's Parbhani district police have opened a case for murder, deliberate destruction of evidence, and failure to disclose information about the incident against the individuals involved. The deceased has been identified as Sakshi Babar, while the key accused, her 47-year-old father Balasaheb Babar, a farmer from Navha village, has been taken into custody.

On Friday, May 3, the Palam police filed a formal complaint (FIR) against eight people, including Balasaheb Babar and his close family, based on the preliminary investigation report filed by inspector Raosaheb Gadewad, according to TOIMaharashtra Honour Killing: Couple Brutally Kills Their Teenage Daughter Over Her Relationship With Man From Different Community in Nanded, Held.

On April 15, the 20-year-old woman flee with the youth of another community. The woman's family resisted filing a case out of concern for social stigma and instead put pressure on the youth's family to return their daughter.

The woman was allegedly strangled by her father following an argument.

The woman's last rites were later quietly carried out by the family with the assistance of eight close relatives, according to the police. The police conducted an investigation and apprehended the victim's father after receiving information about the incident from an informant. The father admitted to killing his daughter while being questioned by the police. The accused was placed in two days of police detention after appearing in court on Saturday. According to the Palam police, the victim was a member of the Maratha community, as they termed it a case of honour killing.
