Maharashtra Floods: 29 Dead, Around Three Lakh People Evacuated to Safe Locations in Pune Division

Heavy rains continued to lash Maharashtra since the last one week. A death toll rises to 29 in Pune division due to floods, while six people were also missing. According to reports, 2.85 lakh people have been evacuated to a safe place from Pune division.

Mumbai, August 9: Heavy rains continued to lash Maharashtra since the last one week. A death toll rises to 29 in Pune division due to floods, while six people were also missing. According to reports, 2.85 lakh people have been evacuated to a safe place from Pune division including districts - Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Pune. Flood Situation Worsens in Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka: Over 40 Killed in Deluge; NDRF, Navy Deployed.

After rescuing 1,700 people in Kolhapur city, the Army on Friday concluded its operation and mobilised its personnel to Shirol town of Kohlapur district to evacuate and rescue people from low-lying areas. However, the Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are carrying out rescue operations in Kohlapur City. Rahul Gandhi Expresses Concern Over Flood Situation in Several States, Urges Congress Workers to Help Affected People.

Meanwhile, 12 rescue teams of Indian Navy were deployed today in Sangli district in addition to the teams already present in Kolhapur. The rescue teams left for Sangli last night by road after airlift was aborted due to unfavourable weather conditions in Kolhapur and Sangli districts. In Satara, the continuing rainfall combined with overflowing of rivers has led to water-logging in villages upto a height of 10-12 feet. The flood situation in Kerala and Karnataka has also worsened. Around 20 people were killed in the rain-related incidents across the state. The Kochi International Airport will remain shut till Sunday afternoon in the wake of heavy rain warning in the southern state. Coastal Karnataka has also faced the devastating impact of the incessant downpour, with 12 deaths being reported in incidents of river overflow and collapse of residences.
