Mumbai, July 21: At least five people have been injured after a building collapsed in Pune's Mundhwa on Saturday morning. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place near Keshavnagar area in Pune. Eight people have been rescued so far while one child is still feared trapped inside the building. The injured ones have been rushed to the hospital.
According to a tweet by ANI, the building was 30 years old and it was served a notice by a municipal corporation. The rescue operation is underway. Reports inform that Pune district normally receives about 469.8 mm rainfall in these two months, but this year, it has already received 575.8 mm rain till July 18. The IMD has forecasted that Pune district may witness light to moderate rain till July 24.
Reports inform that from June 1 to July 18, the normal rain quantum in Pune is 340.5. This means the total rainfall that Pune district has received till that date is about 69% surplus.
On Friday, the India Meteorological Department official informed that a low-pressure over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha coasts has become a well-marked low-pressure area. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the Khadakwasla dam has become 100 per cent full with a fortnight of continuous rain.
Around 18,491 cusecs of water have been released from the dam into the Mutha river on Monday evening. The met department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy showers at isolated places over Vidarbha, Konkan-Goa and heavy rains at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra on July 21 and July 22.
