Mumbai, December 25: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday scrapped previous CM Devendra Fadnavis' decision to open state's first detention centre for illegal immigrants in Nerul, according to a Mumbai Mirror report. This decision comes at a time when the entire nation is witnessing severe protests against NRC and CAA.

Thackeray highlighted that under his watch, he would never allow a detention centre to come up in the state.  The news that Maharashtra will have their first detention centre in Nerul came up in September, ahead of the Assembly Elections. Regarding the implementation of NRC in Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray has said his government will take the decision after the Supreme Court hears the matter on January 22. Modi at a recent rally said that his government never discussed the implementation of a nationwide NRC. Modi distancing his government from NRC came in the wake of a number of top BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and party working president J P Nadda highlighted that a nation-wide NRC will be carried out.
