A 47-year-old woman from Alibaugh Maharashtra suffering from breast cancer received help from unlikely quarters. The CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis released Rs. 1.5 lakhs towards her cancer treatment. According to a Mumbai Mirror news report, the woman Sanjeevani Mukadam was in a financial crunch. A single mother, Mukadam was struggling to raise her son Harsh on her own. But her cancer diagnosis last year brought her life to a standstill since she didn’t have the means to get herself treated.
It took her 12-year-old’s efforts to turn things around for Mukadam. The boy found Fadnavis’ contact number online and urged his mother to reach out to the CM for help, which she did albeit reluctantly. She sent a rather poignant text: “Breast cancer sathi suvidha kara baikansathi. Ek lakh kon denar mala” translated roughly as “Please make provision for women with breast cancer. Who will give me Rs. 1 lakh (for the treatment).”
After reading her message, the CM immediately sent a note to the officer on special duty and directed him to release Rs. 1.5 lakh from the CM Relief Fund. That’s not all, he also made sure that Mukadam underwent her first chemotherapy session at a private hospital in Navi Mumbai.
After reading her message, Fadnavis reached out to her and the same night, Mukadam received a call. Omprakash Shete, OSD, CM Relief Fund spoke to Mumbai Mirror that they immediately made provision for Mukadam’s treatment, making her a special case since she didn’t have the necessary documents. They even arranged for a private hospital, since she couldn’t make the long trip to Mumbai.
Dr. Prince Surana the CEO of MPCT Hopsital in Navi Mumbai, where she is undergoing treatment said that they suspected the cancer might have spread since she was very weak. But luckily, it hadn’t spread. As of now, she requires eight cycles of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery and the treatment may last for eight months.
For Mukadam and her son, the CM’s largesse became a literal live saver. At a time when even the close relatives turned their backs on them. Her son told Mirror: “CM Sir must be getting thousands of messages but he read our request. We never thought he will personally reply to us and help us so soon.”
