Maharashtra Budget 2019–20 Highlights: FM Mungantiwar Presents Farmer-Friendly Budget, Announces Major Provisions for Water and Irrigation

Mumbai, June 18: The Additional Budget of Maharashtra was presented on Tuesday for 2019-20 with a revenue deficit of Rs 20,292 crores. Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar present the budget in the Legislative assembly while the Minister of State for Finance Deepak Vasant Kesarkar presented the budget for the Legislative Council. The Maharashtra government has increased the annual farm outlay to fight various factors related to agriculture such as drought, water shortage, low prices of agriculture produce, water irrigation schemes among others. The budget in the state assembly has proposed Rs 12,000 crores for the irrigation sector, Rs 600 crore for research by agricultural universities, and Rs 200 crore for OBC Corporations.

Mungantiwar said that Rs 100 crore will be used for the construction of houses for Divyang (specially-abled). An amount of Rs. 210 crore has been earmarked under the Gopinath Munde Shetkari Apghat Vima Yojana for 5.5 crore people, he said. The insurance will cover the entire family.

The Finance Minister said that 140 irrigation projects were completed during the past four and a half years which mainly include Bavanthadi main project, Dongargaon project, Nandur Madhmeshwar project, Lower Panzara medium project and upper Kundlika projects. The irrigation capacity was increased to cover 3,87,000 hectares during the past 4.5 years, leading to the creation of 1,905 million cubic meter water storage, he said.
