Mumbai, July 30: In a significant crackdown, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has revealed that the Mahadev Satta app syndicate has been earning a staggering INR 450 crore monthly post-lockdown. The syndicate, reportedly involving over 4,000 individuals and operating through 4,000 branches nationwide has come under intense scrutiny.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the charge sheet presented by EOW in court disclosed that the syndicate functioned in four layers. The Chhattisgarh government has now empowered the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and EOW to investigate and take action under all sections of the Gambling Act. Key figures identified in the syndicate include Amit Shah, Ankit Shah, Rohit Gulati, Saurabh Ahuja, Vishal, Dheeraj Ahuja, Mohammad Ilyaz, and Palwinder Singh. It has been uncovered that protection money was funnelled to the state through various businessmen.
1,000 Accounts Seized, Over 50 FIRs in Past 2 Years
Raipur police officials have seized over 1,000 accounts linked to the syndicate. In the past two years, more than 50 FIRs have been registered in connection with betting activities facilitated by the Mahadev Book Panel. Over 325 individuals have been arrested across different states and districts, including Katni, Anuppur, Visakhapatnam, Odisha, Delhi, Goa, and Maharashtra. On July 28, the Gujarat Police arrested Bharat Chaudhary, a close associate of the infamous bookie Saurabh Chandrakar, the mastermind behind the Mahadev betting app empire. Chaudhary was apprehended in Patan, a burgeoning hub for illicit betting activities, following a raid conducted by the Border Range Cyber Cell team.
A forensic examination of Chaudhary's mobile phone uncovered extensive evidence linking him to Saurabh Chandrakar and Atul Agarwal. Investigators found records indicating the Mahadev app's staggering annual turnover of INR 5213.65 crores, detailed in WhatsApp group communications. Police are scrutinising the bank account and Hawala data data.
