A 28-year-old doctor from Madurai, R Satish Kumar, was arrested on Friday for allegedly morphing photos and videos of a former female classmate and posting them on social media.
Madurai, September 15: A 28-year-old doctor from Madurai, R Satish Kumar, was arrested on Friday for allegedly morphing photos and videos of a former female classmate and posting them on social media. The two had studied together at a government medical college in Cuddalore district, where they developed a friendship, with Satish promising to marry her. During this time, he recorded their private audio and video calls without her consent.
TOI reported that seven months ago, Satish morphed the woman's photos and videos and shared them on various social media platforms. Upon discovering this, the woman asked him to remove the content, but he refused and instead threatened to harm her by throwing acid on her face. Distressed, the woman lodged a complaint with the Chidambaram all-women police. Following her complaint, Satish Kumar was booked under Section 354 (3) of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 66(E) and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. He was arrested and is currently facing legal action. In a similar incident, a 15-year-old Class 9 student of a private school in Vasant Kunj was apprehended for allegedly morphing photographs of 13 fellow students and a teacher into an objectionable video, and circulating the same among his friends.
A complaint was filed by the school principal on May 3, following which an FIR was registered under Section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the IT Act. Police said the juvenile in conflict with the law was apprehended on May 4 and produced before the juvenile justice board.
