Indore, October 13: A 45-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas has been sent to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment over a false complaint of rape against her nephew-in-law. The sessions court in Dewas pronounced Seema Bai guilty of framing her 33-year-old nephew-in-law in a fake rape case in order to seize the property. Seema Bai, who lived in Barkheda Kotapai village near Indore, was immediately taken into custody after the verdict and sent to jail.
According to a report by Times of India, Seema Bai filed a complaint on June 3, 2017 in Barotha police station. The police had registered a case based on her complaint and initiated a probe instantly. After investigation, the police concluded that the allegations made by her against her nephew-in-law were untrue. In 2019 a local court concluded the rape complaint filed by her was false and ordered a case under Sections 182, 211 and 195 of IPC for false information and fabrication of evidence which she had produced during the trial. She was also fined Rs 2,000 for trying to implicate her relative. "Seema Bai was convicted under IPC Section 195 for filing a false complaint and proving wrong evidence in court and was sent to 10 years of jail with rigorous punishment," District prosecution officer Rajendra Singh Bhadauriya was quoted as saying. In a similar incident of fake gangrape complaint, another woman in Madhya Pradesh was sent to prison for 10 years. Police had arrested four men on the basis of the woman's complaint in 2014. The woman's clothes and swab were collected for investigation as medical reports had pointed out "rape". The men kept saying they were implicated and demanded their DNA samples be checked. The samples collected from the men named in FIR didn't match the victim's DNA samples. The woman's DNA matched with her son-in-law. On interrogation, the duo confessed to trying to implicate the men over pump installation.
