Madhya Pradesh: Woman Tries to Avail Govt Scheme by Passing off 'Baby Made of Dough' as Stillborn, Gets Caught

Bhopal, August 24: A woman tried to con the government officials in a hospital 465 kms north of Bhopal by claiming that her new born was a stillborn who she was holding in her arms. However, on close inspection, it turned out that the woman was trying to pass dough covered with clothes as a baby to avail a government offer. However, the woman's bluff was caught after the doctors insisted on seeing the baby. Initially the woman hesitated showing the face of the so-called stillborn.

But the doctors and medical staff sensed something wrong and told the woman she would have to confirm the baby is stillborn. The woman said that she would not be able to "bear" the pain of showing the child's face.

The woman had covered the dough in clothes. Report said that the dough was shaped in the mould of an infant.

The woman wanted to avail the benefit under the Shramik Seva Prasuti Sahayata Yojna. Under the scheme, woman in rural areas are given Rs 14,000 before birth and Rs 16,000 after delivery, taking into consideration that the woman would have to let go of work for three months after delivery. The incident has shocked everyone at the hospital.
