Bhopal, Sept 12: An undertrial prisoner in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind attacked two policemen with spade, before escaping the prison. One of the assaulted cops has succumbed to the injuries. The attacker, who subsequently escaped from the jail along with his accomplice, was apprehended hours later.
The deceased police personnel has been identified as constable Umesh Babu. His colleague, who was also attacked with the spade, is being treated at the district hospital in Bhind. His condition is reported to be stable.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed anguish over the incident, assuring that strictest action would be taken against the culprit. Chouhan has announced Rs 1 crore as compensation for the immediate kin of Babu, along with a government job to one of his family members. The slain police personnel will also be granted the status of martyr, the CM said.

The footage of the attack, shared by news agency ANI, was obtained from CCTV footage of the prison. The prisoner is seen attacking the police personnel from behind with full brute. Following the assault, both the cops were laid unconscious.
