Damoh, July 18: In another incident of sexual assault case against minors in Madhya Pradesh, a four-year-old girl was raped in Damoh district by an unidentified man on Wednesday. After committing the crime, the accused dumped the girl on the road. A railway employee informed the police after he spotted the girl near the railway station. The girl was in critical condition as the accused inflicted injuries on her private parts. The victim was immediately rushed to a district hospital. Later she was shifted to Jabalpur Medical College.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Agrawal said, “The girl was raped by an unidentified accused in the wee hours today. She is in critical condition. We have formed teams to trace the accused.” The case has been registered under section 376 (Punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). A team of women and child development department also visited the hospital to enquire about the victim's health condition.

A string of sexual assault cases has been reported from Madhya Pradesh in the past one month. On June 26, an eight-year-old girl was raped by two men in Mandsaur, who lured her from outside her school by offering sweets. After raping her, they dumped her in a vacant plot. The case triggered massive uproar in the state. Just four days after the Mandsaur rape, a four-year-old girl was raped by her brother’s friend in Satna district of the state. On Sunday, a 14-month-old was raped by her father’s uncle in Vidisha district.

The opposition has slammed the Madhya Pradesh government for the increasing cases of sexual assault against girls. It is the eight rape case reported from the state in the last one month. Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan has even called rapist “burden on the earth.”
