Umaria, June 28: In another incident of sexual assault against minors, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 45 year-year-old man in Nowrozabad in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district on Friday. The police immediately swung into action and arrested the accused. A case has been registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Madhya Pradesh Horror: 12-Year-Old Girl Gangraped by Brothers, Uncle; Beheaded Body Found in Sagar.

In a similar incident in May, a minor was allegedly gang-raped by a 40-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district. The incident took place, when the accused who had come to the victim's village to attend a wedding. The police had registered the case under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO act.

Last year, Parliament passed stringent legislation prescribing the death penalty to those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years and making the law against such sexual offences harsher. The Bill replaces the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance promulgated on April 21, 2018.
