Gwalior,  August 22: A woman who was travelling with her husband from Agra to Pune via Goa Express on August 21 died after she suffered a heart attack aboard the train. Identified as Vijaya Bharti, the 66-year-old woman was declared "dead on arrival" at the hospital in Gwalior.

The woman's death is being further attributed to the alleged delay in the arrival of the ambulance at the nearest Gwalior railway station, even after alerting in advance, as per reports. Despite the Travelling Ticket Examiner's (TTE) request for an ambulance to take Bharti to the nearest hospital, there was no sign of an ambulance.

Vijaya Bharti complained of severe chest pain after the Goa Express' departure from the Morena station. Her condition alerted the nearby passengers, who informed the TTE on night duty aboard the train. Taking cognisance of the urgency of Vijaya's condition, the TTE notified the officials of the nearest railway station of Gwalior, around 30 minutes from Morena. An ambulance was asked to be ready to take the passenger to the hospital. Sudden Death in Rajasthan: 16-Year-Old Boy Collapses and Dies in School Premises in Dausa, Heart Attack Suspected; Video Surfaces.

However, when the train arrived at Gwalior station, there was no sign of the 108 ambulance, as was requested. After waiting for over an hour in exasperation, Vijaya's husband had to resort to calling a private ambulance for his wife to be taken to the hospital. This is, unfortunately, not the only case of death caused by the delayed arrival of an ambulance. In the past few months, this is reportedly the third such incident, as per the Free Press Journal. Although the response time of a 108 ambulance in urban areas is 18 minutes at a maximum, on the night of Vijaya Bharti's death, it did not arrive in time.
