Gotmar Mela 2019: Over 275 Injured in Stone-Pelting Tradition, Section 144 Imposed in Chhindwara's Pandhurna

The annaul Gotmar Mela involves the practice of stone-pelting between people in Chhindwara district's Pandhurna and Sawargaon town. However, things got out of control on Saturday. The practice soon turned into a conflict and people had to be restrained by the Police.

Chindwara, September 1: The famous Gotmar Mela in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district began on Saturday on a violent note. As many as 275 people reported injuries and six were seriously injured in the traditional function organised. Video of the stone-pelting incident shows the practice got out of hand. However, the District Collector said that the situation is in control. And that drones are being deployed to monitor the situation.
