Jabalpur, February 4: Satna district court issued the “death warrant” against a schoolteacher convicted of raping a four-year-old girl. Mahendra Singh Gond is to be hanged on March 2 in Jabalpur jail, unless the Supreme Court orders a stay. The incident took place on June 30, 2018, when Gond abducted the child and raped her in the jungles and dumped her there, thinking she was dead. The minor’s family members found her in the early hours of July 1. She was airlifted to Delhi for medical treatment. Within a few hours of the crime, the police arrested Gond. A sessions court in Nagod pronounced capital punishment for the schoolteacher on September 19. Satna district and sessions court issued the “black warrant” against Gond after the confirmation of the death sentence by the high court. Gopal Tamrakar, superintendent of Jabalpur Central Jail, told The Times of India that they had received an e-mail from Satna court regarding the execution of Gond. Jabalpur Jail is the only jail in Madhya Pradesh to have gallows.  The last person to be hanged in Madhya Pradesh was Kamta Prasad. He was hanged 1996 for murder.
